Økapi (Filippo Edgardo Paolini) è un compositore, turntablist e artista del cut-up, esponente di spicco della plunderfonia. Come l’animale da cui prende il nome — un collage zoologico tra zebra e giraffa — la sua musica è una stratificazione intertestuale di frammenti preesistenti, orchestrati con ironia e leggerezza sinfonica.

Attivo dagli anni ’90, Økapi fonde l’approccio acusmatico della musica concreta con la cultura del plagio radicale. La sua carriera vanta collaborazioni internazionali (da Mike Patton a Zu, da Christian Marclay a Peter Brötzmann) e produzioni che spaziano dal teatro al cinema, fino alle installazioni per il Romaeuropa Festival.

Eclettico e inclassificabile, Økapi continua a muoversi tra avanguardia sperimentale e contesti underground, lottando per l’egemonia di una musica “scorretta” e orgogliosamente non purista.

A sort of birds’ catalogue, as Messiaen tried to do during his life. As always, even in this case økapi composed a little sound-collagism opera, which includes a video development. This is the soundtrack of this “movie”. For this A/V-project, økapi is co-working with the italian video-artist Simone Memé, part of the collective MoreTv-V. Because of his dixit plunderphonic nature, and for the occasion, økapi involved Geoff Leigh (sax/flute) and Mike Cooper (guitar) into his phantomatic virtual orchestra.
